Prosurge Profile

We start from a humble beginning by a group of experts. Through years of endeavor, we’ve become a globally competitive surge protection device (SPD) company and extended our SPD business in 6 continents and more than 60 countries. Our surge protection devices are protecting numerous critical facilities in North America, South America, Asia, Oceania, Africa and Europe.

Our mission is to to protect millions of businesses, households and organizations from lightning & surge damages. Inspired and encouraged by this mission, we are doing things differently than many of our competitors.

We innovate. As an engineering driven company, we invest a way-above-average ratio of yearly revenue on R&D.
This ensures Prosurge to be among the very few companies who can offer the most complete SPDs on the US market.

We challenge. Using our ingenuity, we are raising the standards for SPD quality & reliability via designing, manufacturing and testing. Our surge protection device is one of the safest on the market. We collaborate. The Prosurge team is one of the best in industry. We share the same value: pursue excellence in everything we do. Together, we are delivering world-class products and solutions.

We progress. Despite our accomplishment, We deem ourselves progressive instead of successful. With the Kaizen mentality, We are always bettering than we used to be. We support. Our customers are supported and well-served in various ways: 2-hour response, technical training, video conference, regular visit, well-documented material ect. In fact, they are so loyal and satisfied that they are happy to write recommendation letters for us.

Trust us with confidence. Stay safe and sound with Prosurge!

Patents & Certificates of Surge Protection Device

As an innovative surge protection device manufacturer, Prosurge invests a considerable ratio of our yearly revenue on R&D, intellectual property protection and international certification. We launch new products every year and obtain more and more patents and certificates to make sure our SPDs can be distributed in every corner of the world.

One of our core patents is TPAE (Thermally Protected & Arc Extinguish) and it’s the ultimate solution to the common safety problem of MOV based SPD.

Prosurge Lab

From our foundation, we believe quality is paramount for a safety product like surge protection device (SPD). Thus we invest heavily to build a lab that is fully capable to perform tests according to IEC 61643-11 and UL 1449 4th Ed standards.

In the next few years, Prosurge will continue investing on our SPD lab like adding equipments that can generate multiple waveforms to adapt to the upcoming new standard in surge protection. As we understand lightning better, people realize that lightning impulse is not a single waveform yet multiple waveforms. SPD that can pass single waveform impulse may be endure multiple waveform impulse in real situation. Prosurge is a pionner to adapt to this change in surge protection industry.

One of our goal is to make our SPD lab the best in industry. We are working on it.

Quality Assurance

Prosurge Electronics is our major manufacturing facility. It is an ISO9001: 2015 certified factory based in Foshan, China.  We are one of the very few companies who adopt bar code tracking system in surge protection industry. And we are implementing 6 sigma quality control as required by our major customers.

Surge protection device (SPD) is a tricky product. In most cases, customer is not able to test the quality of a SPD as it requires expensive equipment. You need to build a lab to test the quality of a SPD. That’s why there are so many low quality SPDs on the market. These low quality SPD manufacturer are just gambling on the odds.

One of the common issue of low quality SPD is that they use low quality or smaller size MOV that cannot meet the surge capacity it proclaims. In this case, a strong lightning hit may blow this SPD. But there is another problem which is more common: this SPD burns under TOV (Temperary Over-voltage). We prepare a page to domonstrate these problems.

Performance of Surge Protection Device (SPD)

Normally, people pay a lot of attention on the performance of a surge protection device (SPD) like its surge capacity. Surge capacity is indeed very important. There are too many surge protection devices (SPDs) on the market can not meet the surge capacity it proclaimed. Here is a picture and video of a SPD that exploded at surge current test (Imax 40kA):

Safety of Surge Protection Device (SPD)

Yet few attention is paid on the safety of a surge protection device. However, bad designed SPD can be extremely dangerous and is one of the major causes for fire hazard. Below is some burnt SPD pictures:

SPD/MOV is the Victim of Temporary Overvoltage (TOV)

SPDs not properly designed or incorrectly used and unprotected MOVs may go into thermal runaway, resulting in short circuit, overheating, smoke and potentially fire hazard due to:

  • End of life
  • Sustained abnormal overvoltage / Temporary Overvoltage (TOV)
  • Surge with unexpected energy

MOV or SPD are protectors of Transient Overvoltage (or surge) but victims of Temporary Overvoltage.
